Animals Sick from Dry Grass – Farmers on Alert Before Monsoon

Nagpur: As the summer nears its end, many farmers in the Vidarbha region are troubled by livestock falling ill. The shortage of green fodder before monsoon has led to the consumption of dry grass, which is causing digestive problems among animals.

Recent veterinary examinations have revealed an increase in diseases like bloating, indigestion, and diarrhea. Dairy animals like cows and buffaloes are most affected. Even with treatment, some animals are not recovering quickly, veterinary officials confirmed.

The situation is worsened by the use of low-quality fodder. Nutritional deficiencies in the feed are leading to weight loss and a weakened immune system in animals.

Veterinary experts have advised farmers to increase the use of green and organic fodder, maintain regular health checkups, and ensure timely vaccination. The Department of Animal Husbandry is also spreading awareness about disease prevention among livestock owners.

Farmer unions are urging the government to announce special support measures. With monsoon around the corner, arrangements for fodder storage are also being demanded to prevent a similar crisis in the future.
