Cow Truck Hijacking: Man Arrested in Bangladesh

Narayanganj – A man involved in the hijacking of a mini-truck transporting 15 cows has been arrested by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) in Dhaka. The suspect had impersonated a Detective Branch (DB) officer during the crime.

According to a statement issued by RAB-11 operations officer Golam Morshed on Sunday, the accused — identified as Bablu alias Babul (38), a resident of the Berait area in Dhaka’s Badda — was apprehended on Saturday afternoon from the Gulshan Lake area under Badda Police Station.

The incident took place on December 18 last year. Complainant Rana Hossain was en route to Chattogram from Ishwardi in a mini-truck carrying 15 cows. Around 3:30 AM, as they passed through the Kamtal area of Bandar upazila along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, a microbus blocked their path.

Several men in jackets marked “DB” emerged from the vehicle and claimed to be officers conducting a drug search, alleging that narcotics were hidden inside the cows. They demanded to inspect the documents and forcibly removed the complainant and the driver from the truck, detaining them inside the microbus.

One of the imposters then drove away with the truck and cattle, while the others blindfolded, gagged, and bound the victims before physically assaulting them. The criminals also stole their cash and mobile phones before abandoning them in roadside bushes.

After thorough investigation, RAB tracked down and arrested one of the suspects. During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed to his involvement in the hijacking.

The detainee has been handed over to Bandar Police Station for further legal action.
